I’ll have to come right out and honestly tell you that I was not even alive when The Exkursions released their debut album in 1971. I came along a couple of years later and didn’t even discover “classic rock” until the late 80s. So my appreciation of anything from that era is as a fan of (relatively) newer music discovering the classics. I would label The Exkursions as one of those classics worth discovering. Mike Johnson and company specialize in blues rock with a heavy dose of fuzz guitar. Most reviews of this album compare it to Cream or Hendrix. That is a fair comparison. I am going to go out on a limb and bet that this album caused more than a few clashes between conservative Christian parents and their hard-rock loving children.

The 2011 CD issue is on Born Twice Records. Born Twice is one of the top re-issue labels out there – everything they do is top notch. From the incredibly clean sounding re-mastering to the well-designed digipack with great historical stories – this is a re-issue worth getting.
