The Other Woman

Let's just get right to the point; The Other Woman is simply hilarious. There are silly moments and those who like their humor a bit more high brow may take the fun out of it. But sometimes movies are there to entertain and this one did from start to finish. It would not be good for every film to follow this mold but once in a while isn't a bad thing. Many things worked in this film and the cast found a groove that made perfect onscreen chemistry. Can't argue with that.

Carly (Cameron Diaz) thinks she has found the perfect guy in Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Then she finds out he is married. When her and the scumbag's wife Kate (Leslie Mann) start an odd friendship they create an unlikely bond. Then they discover they are both being cheated on when they see Mark with a young hottie (Kate Upton). Now all three women get together for a sisterhood that will stop at nothing until they see Mark lose it all.

Although the concept is far fetched it does create fodder for a perfect comedy. None of which would work nearly as well had this female trio not jelled like they did. Diaz is solid as the jaded mistress who just wants to be left alone after discovering she has been lied to. Upton is sort of herself but believable playing the dingy, full bodied other woman. But hands down Mann steals every scene and is an absolutely unstoppable laugh factory as the jilted wife. Her rapid fire comedy is often hard to keep up with and you never know what she will say or do next. This dynamic is unique and makes the film outshine most other female comedies.

This film is highly recommended for a girls night out. The women each have strong but varying personalities. Watching them get even with Mark will have you cheering in the aisles. Waldau is easy to hate as the sexy but conniving three timer. Granted he is there mainly as a reason for these three ladies to get together but he manages to still deliver a solid performance.

The Other Woman is rated PG-13 on appeal for mature thematic material, sexual references and language. This is an adult comedy for sure and the comedy pushes the envelope with dialouge and sexual scenarios. Rating it PG-13 though will open the door for more people to enjoy it. Allowing the lines to move into R rated territory would have made for a crude and offensive flick and more than likely hindered the comedy. It is easy to just spew foul language but with a lighter rating the cast had to really be funny. And they are. I give it 4 out of 5 sleepovers. It is rare to get a solid female comedy that isn't just filth and foul.
